Laser CAD Apprentice - TS Metals


The role will focus on supporting all production areas including, CAD, CMM and Quality.

As well as supporting the setting and operation of the Laser cutting machine, the role will include maintaining quality and the total productive maintenance (TPM) as well as always observing the production performance.

This apprentice is designed to share knowledge across a variety of the production areas to become a fully trained operator / setter / programmer.

 

Key Responsibilities & Accountability

As an apprentice within the business, you will be expected to:

  • Operating and supporting the setting of production machines
  • Organise jobs/kits prior to production
  • Operating machines where required to produce first off parts and continued batch production
  • Ensure components conforms with Customer Specification
  • Make sure raw materials are prepared and available for the machines according to Customer specification
  • Keep machines clean, tidy, and organised as required and perform TPM checks on a daily basis
  • Adherence to Health & Safety policy and processes 

 

Qualifications & Experience

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Attendance and timekeeping, hours of work
  • A passion for engineering and manufacturing
  • Good IT Skills, use of MS Office in particular Excel
  • Good communication skills and a team player
  • A proactive can-do attitude and a willingness to learn
  • GCSE Qualifications including Maths, English, and Science
  • Full driving licence

 

The successful applicant will be required to attend MGTS Coventry full time for the 1st year followed by 3 further years of day release. You will be awarded a Level 3 Technical Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (NVQ).

The apprenticeship will focus on the foundations of machining and manufacturing techniques and the equipment used:

  • Develop knowledge of metal cutting processes across a range of materials including Steel, Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Brass and Copper
  • Learn how to use manual inspection equipment and perform first principal inspection of components
  • Trained on CMM
  • Develop an understanding of the function of the Quality Management System within a manufacturing business
  • Gain knowledge of machine programming, both long hand and offline programming using CAD/CAM systems.

This apprenticeship is designed to progress towards a Manufacturing / Project Management role upon completion.
