When it comes to rotating electrical equipment, two things are inevitable: wear and tear. As far as you are aware, your motor or generator may be functioning perfectly, but how can you know what is going on inside your machine?

Developed by Quartzteq, the LIFEVIEW® suite of solutions delivers permanent online monitoring or portable offline analysis, with a range of supporting sensors, installed from new or retro-fitted at a later date.

Why monitoring is necessary?

Designed by machine experts to evaluate the health of your rotating electrical assets – LIFEVIEW is a key component in reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) over the lifetime of a machine and an integral element of any Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) strategy.

An essential element of CBM is Condition Monitoring (CM) as this provides early warnings of critical problems so that a decision can be made on whether intervention is required, identifying when this is to take place to avoid unnecessary additional downtime and protect against costly damage.

The occurrence of sparks, arcs and electrical discharges is a sure indication that insulation problems exist. It is also likely that one or more of the following defects will be exhibited;

  • Bar vibrations (loose wedges)
  • ​End winding contamination
  • Slot discharge
  • Broken conductors

Partial Discharge (PD) results in failures such as earth faults, phase to-phase faults or shorted turns that will eventually cause defects leading to machine repair or rewind.

If a PD problem is identified early enough, the situation can be contained, providing you with the opportunity to plan an intervention, to take necessary corrective measures:

  • ​Implement a temporary repair to enhance machine life
  • Ensure necessary spares are available
  • ​Plan for outage 


  • LIFEVIEW is flexible; with permanent or portable on-line analysis and can be installed on new machines or retro fitted at a later date
  • LIFEVIEW is modular; sensors can be fitted / added as required, such as PD and Earth leakage
  • LIFEVIEW is versatile; it will work off existing pre-fitted 3rd party PD sensors as well as with Quartzteq's own sensors
