Quartzelec is pleased to announce it has been awarded a significant Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) contract by Glencar for the new Warrington Motorway Service Area (MSA) at Junction 11 of the M62. This follows Extra MSA Group’s February 2026 announcement confirming the new site, which will provide major new facilities for road users travelling through the region.
As the appointed M&E contractor, Quartzelec will deliver design, installation and commissioning of the M&E services package, including fire systems, security, access control, lightning protection, HVAC, and external fire hydrants.
Construction has already commenced, with Quartzelec expected to begin on-site works in July 2026. The MSA is scheduled to open in Autumn 2027 and will provide a range of modern amenities, including food and beverage outlets, office and commercial space, rest areas and toilet facilities. Externally, the site will feature extensive parking and a high‑capacity electric vehicle charging zone to support the UK’s transition to lower‑carbon transport.
“A key factor in securing this project was a strong focus on value engineering, combined with a highly collaborative approach,” said Matthew Moss, Manchester Operations Manager at Quartzelec. “We are committed to supporting Glencar’s social, economic, and community-value initiatives in the Warrington area and anticipate this is the beginning of a long and successful partnership. This project represents an exciting milestone for our team and reflects the trust placed in our capabilities. We look forward to delivering strong results and building a successful, long-term relationship.”
Leveraging its extensive experience in delivering technically complex M&E solutions, Quartzelec will draw on its in‑house engineering specialists and structured project management processes to ensure all elements of the works meet the required technical, safety and programme standards.
Quartzelec has begun the first phase of the design programme, working closely with Glencar to develop the detailed technical specifications. This stage is being delivered alongside engineers from design partner Futureserv, with early activity focused on multi‑disciplinary coordination, including interfaces with steelwork specialists, below‑ground drainage teams and the project architect. Full BIM‑level design integration is also a key requirement of this phase.
As the project advances to installation, a dedicated on‑site delivery team will oversee all installation, testing and commissioning works, including the coordination of specialist systems and subcontracted packages.
Tom Kearsley, Regional Director – North at Glencar, added, “We are pleased to appoint Quartzelec to deliver the M&E works package for the Warrington development. Their technical capability, collaborative approach and commitment to maintaining high standards throughout the programme make them a strong partner for a scheme of this scale. We look forward to working closely as the project progresses.”
The first phase of works includes the diversion of Silver Lane Brook and the creation of a new peatland habitat zone, alongside extensive earthworks, drainage and ground improvement to establish the development platform. Work will then transition into the construction of the main amenity building, parking areas and wider external works. Quartzelec will be required to complete its scope within a defined timeframe to enable future building occupants to undertake their fit‑out works ahead of final project completion.
