Strengthening Our Safety Culture: Quartzelec Completes 6th Annual Global Safety Stand Down

03 February 2026

Throughout January, our Quartzelec business units held their Annual Global Safety Stand Down within their own teams. This is a dedicated time to pause, reconnect and refocus on the behaviours and decisions that keep every colleague safe.

Introduced by Managing Director Stephen Morrison, this year’s programme encouraged open discussion and reflection on our overall performance in 2025. Teams looked at the continued rise in near miss and safety observation reporting, recognising this as a positive sign of colleagues speaking up and engaging proactively with safety across the business.

The Stand Downs also provided an opportunity to revisit progress made through last year’s campaigns, including improvements in dust suppression, updates to RPE face fit requirements, and ongoing work around CDM responsibilities and vibration monitoring. These examples helped reinforce the importance of planning, communication and consistent standards across all sites and functions.

Looking ahead, the 2026 campaign will focus on strengthening core processes such as CoSHH management, contractor controls and PPE suitability. Work is also underway to refresh our Toolbox Talks, making them clearer, more engaging, and easier to access for teams across the business.

Each business unit explored key discussion topics relevant to day to day operations. Road safety and speed awareness remained a major focus, alongside conversations about PPE, effective mobilisation when setting teams to work, and managing interactions with members of the public. These discussions helped colleagues share experiences and consider how small improvements can make a big difference.

Sustainability also featured in this year’s sessions, with teams introduced to our updated Environmental Impact Policy and the steps we are taking to support the UK Government’s net zero ambitions. Colleagues reviewed our CO₂ emissions trends and the positive impact of initiatives such as solar panels, LED lighting and EV fleet management.

Above all, the Stand Downs highlighted a consistent message: safety is a collective responsibility. Every decision we make either on site, on the road or in our offices plays a part in ensuring everyone goes home safe. The sessions encouraged colleagues to speak openly, share experiences, and continue strengthening the culture that protects us all, with a clear reminder that if something doesn’t look or feel right, it is always safer to say so.
